Justin Glaie is a multi-instrumentalist and above all a super talented lutenist. Maël Pire is a dangerous extremist when it comes to versatility. They met each other in the pubs of the Conservatory. An inevitable encounter given their common 'crush' for English music. But instead of fighting for their love, Justin and Maël decided to share their love. Three years later the young and versatile singer Korneel Van Neste joins them. Not only is he an exceptional polyphonist, but he also adapts his vocal register to the character he 'plays'. Put these three four years together and voila, your band is ready. In 2016 the duo Sweete Devils was a fact and their first concerts followed. Lutenist François Dambois will join them for tonight's concert. Rough guitars smashing in the garage? Could have been, but it turned out: with the lute completely loose on the hits of the 16th century.

Whether the western lute and the nyckelharpa (also sometimes referred to as 'key feather') have sounded together in the course of time is an open question. The fact is that they were both depicted, in all kinds of guises, on medieval frescoes and in manuscripts such as the Codex Manesse or described in the music encyclopaedias of Agricola (16th E) and Michael Praetorius (Syntagma Musicum, 17th E). It is also a fact that the lute was associated with the court culture, mirroring antiquity, and the nyckelharpa rather with folk culture.

Under the Shakespearean motto 'there is more between heaven and earth that are dreamt of in your philosophy' Didier François, nyckelharpist, lutenist Philippe Malfeyt and gambist Frederik Hildebrand enter into a dialogue with history.

They arrange music by lute virtuosos such as Robert Johnson, Robert de Visée and Silvius Leopold Weiss, violin partitas by Johann Sebastian Bach, Dowland, Vivaldi and improvise on dance folky tunes or their own compositions.

Come and discover the sophisticated palette of sounds produced by a wealth of strings that are ironed, plucked and sympathetic, which leaves no one unmoved and is like honeycomb, sweet to the soul.
