The Spanish word albricias means the gift given to a bringer of good news. It is, so to speak, a gift born from a gift. Cantoría aims to show the various ways in which this idea is embodied in the vocal music of the Spanish Renaissance, from the salvation bestowed upon humanity by divine forces to the transmission of Renaissance folk songs in polyphonic arrangements as a cultural gift passed down through the centuries. Based on three important musical sources, this programme explores diverse forms of musical gifts.

Cantoría is an emerging vocal ensemble conducted and founded by Jorge Losana in 2016. The group has been selected for Eeemerging 2018, a programme supported by the European Union and organized by seven international partners. They have also been selected for the residence programme at La Cité de la Voix in Vézelay, the International Young Artist’s Presentation (IYAP) 2017 in Antwerp, the fringe edition of the Musica Antiqua Early Music Festival in Bruges and the fringe edition of the Festival Oude Muziek 2017 in Utrecht. Cantoría’s repertoire is mainly based on the music of the Spanish Golden Age and the Italian Renaissance, approaching it with respect for and investigation of historic interpretation techniques. Cantoría enjoys exploring the theatrical and expressive character of vocal Renaissance music.

When these guys opened their mouths, the room was filled with light.
