Habil Sayagi (in the style of Habil) is a performance that documents on a journey through different dimensions. Sketched shadow worlds invite us to reflect on what might be instead of what is. In Habil Sayagi such possible worlds have already been translated into music, dance and painting. The musical tradition of Azerbaijan, the mugham, has exactly the intuitive expression necessary to address these kinds of themes.

Central within Habil Sayagi is the homonymous composition for cello and piano that the Azerbaijani composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh composed in 1979. With this composition as starting point, the project shows the results of a search for how the cello can mimic the role of the traditional string instrument, kamancheh, in the work of Ali-Zadeh as well as in traditional songs. The title refers to the renowned Azerbaijani kamancheh player Habil Aliyev.

The dancer will embody different perspectives of the journey, and provide the inspiration for the shadows to be created by the painter.
