A new composer portrait about Henry Purcell for 6+

Zonzo Compagnie is conquering the world with its composer portraits. With 3ach, last year during AlbaNova ‘En Route’, they immersed visitors into the sparkling world of Bach. This year it is the turn of English baroque composer Henry Purcell. A Belgian-Canadian team uses all their means to represent its imaginative universe.

At the center of the scene is a large magic box, a huge model of an old theater. A dream machine, if you like. When the curtains open, miracles happen. You have to see it to believe it, they pull out all the stops to take you into a wonderful dream world for which Purcell wrote beautiful music.

There is a singer and two musicians in and around the model: one plays the lute, the other the accordion. Together they are the ideal allies to allow the colors of Purcell's repertoire to shine. With melodies and chords, they guide you on the unfathomable paths of the imagination. Those who do not know Purcell will undoubtedly become a fan after this performance and will complete their playlist with hits from The Fairy Queen, King Arthur or Funeral of Queen Mary.

A production of Zonzo Compagnie in co-production with Les Festivals de Wallonie, Opéra de Lille, Concertgebouw Brugge and Het Laatste Bedrijf. With the support of La Maison qui Chante, Vlaanderen, the cultural cooperation agreement Flanders-Québec and the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. This production was made possible with the support of the Tax Shelter measure by the Belgian government, and Gallop Tax Shelter.
